Schonesland’s Run to Historic Weston, Missouri
May 4-5, 2019
It’s been five years since we last descended upon the historic town of Weston, Missouri in our Porsches, so it’s time for a return visit.
Weston was a major hub for the Underground Railroad during the Civil War and the western-most embarkation point for wagon train settlers heading west. It’s situated on the Missouri River. The buildings are still very well preserved and home to many interesting shops, restaurants, and bars. Think “Galena, Illinois” in Missouri.
We will travel the White Pole Road from DSM to Glenwood, IA, stopping for lunch at Adriano’s Brick Oven Italian Restaurant. The route then takes us to the very bottom of the Loess Hills Scenic Byway and through the hills and valleys of Northwestern Missouri, through St. Joseph and into Weston.
A block of 12 rooms has been reserved at the Historic St. George Hotel. There are 8 queen rooms ($129) and 4 double queen rooms ($189) available.
Please call directly to the hotel at 816-640-9902 and mention that you want one of these rooms under the Schonesland Porsche Club block. THEN, please email Jeff David, trail boss, at firstname.lastname@example.org to let him know that you’ve reserved a room and how many of you will be in your car.
IMPORTANT….We have this block until APRIL 1st…that’s only six weeks from now. So, if you want a room on the main strip in Weston, this is IT.
Dinner has been arranged at the excellent Avalon Café, 2 blocks from the hotel. This restaurant has an
extensive gourmet menu that will be completely open to us after a cocktail hour on their patio from 6
to 7 pm.
There will be an organized drive early Sunday morning that will meander northward and after
that you can meander home any way you choose. This will be a great chance to get those special cars
out on the road for a good stretch and get to know some of your fellow Schoneslanders.
If you have any questions, please call trail boss Jeff David at 515-229-5616.
