DESCRIPTION:Registration ends at April 22\, 2024 11:59 PM CDT \n\nSaturday and Sunday\, April 27th & 28th should be on your calendars for the 2024 Loess Hills Run to Sioux City. Leaving from Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh\, 1025 E Hickman Rd\, Waukee\, IA 50263 on Saturday morning (arrive at 7:30 am)\, we’ll drive west on scenic Highway 44 to the Loess Hills in western Iowa. After a stop for lunch\, we’ll hustle up the Byway’s thrilling twists and turns thru the hills and valleys to arrive at the Marriott Riverfront Hotel in South Sioux City\, NE in time to check into our rooms and gather in the bar for a little refreshment and tales from the trail.  Then\, we’ll move to the Highlands Room at Kahill’s Chop House for a private evening of great food\, beverage and fellowship; cocktails at 6:00\, dinner at 7:00. \nSunday morning offers a return to Central Iowa by taking either the express route (Interstates 29 and 80) or the scenic route by going back down the Byway when it’s virtually deserted.  The Loess Hills Scenic Byway is on the United States Registry of Scenic Byways and one of our most popular drives of the season\, enjoyed by Schoneslanders since 2009. These roads are MADE for Porsches! \nA block of 30 rooms with special group rates of $140 or $150/night\, depending on view\, has been reserved under “Schonesland Region Porsche Club” with a mixture of king and double queen rooms on the river side and the parking lot side. DESCRIPTION:Please join us on Saturday\, April 20 for our single-day Mad Warren Driving Tour! The MadWarren drive will kick off Schonesland’s 2024 driving season. We will meet at Hotel Renovo (arrive around 7:30\, drive instructions are at 8:00\,  first group departs at 8:30) in Urbandale and go over the route\, safety instructions\, and sign the requisite waivers. \nBe sure to download the RidewithGPS app at least a day before. Further instructions on downloading and using the app for the route will be provided. Spoiler alert!!!!!  For the drive itself we will be driving the route in the opposite direction as last year. \nAt the end of the drive\, lunch will be at Pyra Pizza in Norwalk (around 11:45). DESCRIPTION:Have you been thinking it’s time to get more out of your car and the Porsche experience? Join us on Saturday\, April 13 at Cozy Cafe in Johnston immediately following Cars and Coffee for a great new Tech Session from our very own Bob Eddy and other experienced competitors on Everything You Need to Know About Autocross\, DE\, and Track Events! \nThis seminar will have several page hand-outs\, two large poster board diagrams for explanations and referencing while in discussions. It will cover three main areas of competition to include details of the different types of driving the competition courses. At the conclusion of each area two Schonesland members will give their perspective on what to expect\, why it can be fun to participate\, and respond to questions and comments. \nA) Autocrossing or Solo Events: Typically held in a large parking lot with a course designed and laid out using rubber pylons. Each car navigates through the course driving against a timed run from start to finish\, one car at a time. We will cover the complete description of how the event works\, what you should expect to get from this experience and what the cost would be to enter. \nB) On Track Experience Events: Run on a fully-enclosed race track. This event covers the full experience of driving correctly on a track and includes in-car instruction. This type of event will also include other cars on track with you at the same time. We will cover the full operation of driving and what you should expect to get out of the on track experience and what the cost would be to enter. \nC) On Track Time Trial Events: These come at a greater experience level\, driving at a faster and more aggressive pace on a closed race track\, in competition against yourself to drive even faster to beat your previous lap times.

DESCRIPTION:This year’s event will be held Saturday\, December 9th at Noce in downtown Des Moines\, in their Backstage Event area. It’s a beautiful intimate space (https://www.nocedsm.com/private-events). \nCharcuterie and drinks (cash bar) will begin at 5:30PM\, followed by a dinner buffet at 7PM. As our entrees\, we will be enjoying a prime rib carving station\, pecan crusted chicken and vegetable lasagna. After dinner\, a dessert buffet and coffee service will be provided as well. \nFor those that would like to stay in Des Moines that evening\, Hotel Fort Des Moines is just a couple of blocks away and they have graciously offered us their discounted “Neighbor” rates\, which can be accessed by clicking on this link. Simply adjust the date to December 9th\, select your room type\, and book directly. \nNoce does not have their own parking lot\, so parking is on the street\, but at that location at that time of day plenty of spaces should be available. We have arranged for a number of parking spaces at Ford & Garland\, which sits directly across the street. Additionally\, the Nationwide parking garage at 12th and Walnut (a little over a block away) is free and available for parking at all hours. \nFinally\, Noce is hosting two separate events the evening of the 9th; our attendees are encouraged to use the west side entrance doors (in the alley) rather than the front doors for faster and simpler entry. SUMMARY:Dragoon Trail Driving Tour
DESCRIPTION:October 14th is the Annual Schonesland Club Dragoon Trail drive. \nThe Dragoon Trail follows the path of the 1st U.S. Dragoons\, cavalry soldiers who scouted Iowa in 1835 after the Black Hawk Purchase put the area under U.S. government control. The trail roughly tracks along the course of the Des Moines River from Fort Dodge through Des Moines to Knoxville and Lake Red Rock.  \nOur drive: We will depart following Cars & Coffee at Cozy Cafe\, drive to Fort Dodge where we will be having lunch at Mineral City (2621 Fifth Ave S\, Fort Dodge IA). \nDriver’s meeting @ 9:15 with the first group scheduled for an 9:30 departure.  The drive route will be posted on Ride With GPS\, and also paper copies will be available the day of the event. \nAny questions\, please contact John Peeler 515-708-4153. \nYou can register for the event at Motorsportreg here. SUMMARY:Red Wing\, Minnesota Multi-Night Driving Tour
DESCRIPTION:We’re the Schonesland Region and we do driving tours-as good as any region around\, some people might say. Last year we took a chance on a new tour to the Red Wing\, Minnesota area with a more laid-back schedule.  By all accounts a big hit.  So\, we’re doing it again this September with a few new twists. \nFor twist ONE\, as many of you already know\, this event will be our 2023 Fall tour\, rather than our fantastic Wisconsin tour\, which is coming up in mid-July.  And TWO\, this trip to Red Wing will be one day longer\, beginning on Thursday\, September 28th for those who can get away that day.  And THREE\, we have a REALLY good drive lined up for Friday\, September 29th all over those curvy\, hilly Wisconsin roads just across the Mississippi River from Red Wing.  Except for one small stint\, these are all new roads not driven last year. And FOUR\, for those who want to be really adventurous\, we’ll be driving early (quite early!) DESCRIPTION:This is the inaugural MA Hill Charity Drive! We are honoring MA Hill and everything she did for our club. She was the first female president of Schonesland PCA.  Everyone knew Mary Alice! She was always there with a smile\, laugh\, or ear to listen!   \nAll monies raised will be donated to Big Sisters which was MA’s favorite charity. \nThe format will be a poker run so you can go at your own pace. \nWe’ll depart from the AMC movie theater near our Cars & Coffee location in Johnston. We’ll do a driver’s meeting at 8:30AM to be on the road by 9:00. We’ll conclude the run (and see who got the best hand) at lunch at Smokey D’s BBQ. \nCost per hand played is $25. DESCRIPTION:We formally start the drive from Joplin\, Missouri\, with a welcome dinner Thursday night. Most of us will drive together to Joplin on Thursday. We continue our tour on Friday to Eureka Springs through southern Missouri and Arkansas. On Saturday and Sunday\, we will have absolutely phenomenal drives through the Ozark Francis National Forest and some of the most curvy and fun roads that will absolutely thrill everyone. We will return to Des Moines on Monday (Labor Day). SUMMARY:Track Experience Day at Mid-America Motorplex
DESCRIPTION:All Schonesland Region members have been invited to join our friends in the PCA Great Plains Region for a one-day-only “Track Experience” event on Saturday\, August 26th! The full-day event offers you the opportunity to let your Porsches loose at the Raceway Park of the Midlands (RPM – formerly known as the Mid-America Motorplex or MAM)\, located 15 miles south of the I-80 / I-29 interchange in Council Bluffs. Just a quick two-hour drive from Des Moines\, the 40-foot-wide\, 2 ¼-mile-long track includes 15 turns\, one long straight\, two shorter straights\, and three shorter shoots beside the turns. \nSponsored by the PCA Great Plains Region\, the event is fully sanctioned by PCA as a “Driver Education Track Experience” and is open to any current Porsche Club of America member.The event is open to any Porsche coupe or targa; cabriolet models must be 2005 or newer. There will be three track groupings (novice beginner\, intermediate\, advanced) comprised of Porsches only. A total of six (and the possibility of up to eight) 20-minute sessions of on-track driving will be held\, with three in the morning with an instructor in the car with you and possibly four in the afternoon. Additionally\, two classroom sessions (30 to 40 minutes each) are required for beginners to attend and learn about “on track driving”. All instruction\, both in classroom and on track\, will come from a PCA certified driver instructor.Each new entrant will be assigned an instructor and will include a ride along in your car plus outside observations. Driver’s meeting will be at 8:30am on Saturday. \nCost for registration is $165.00 and covers track rental\, emergency services\, instruction\, and insurance.
